Sturgis Music Society

The Sturgis Music Society is the keystone umbrella organization that connects all of the Sturgis East and West music makers.

Any student in an ensemble (including the 9th and 10th grade choruses), a music club, or IB Music class is automatically part of the SMS community.

The Music Society nominates student leaders according to the changing needs of the music department annually. These students advocate on behalf of the groups and the various individuals in sub groups within the department. They work with the music directors to make things happen.

The mission of the Music Society is... 

1) to invigorate passion in music making in order to inspire students to pursue musical excellence, 

2) to build a community welcoming all students at the school by working together to support collaborate, and realize creative visions, and

3) to embrace the individuality and unique musical interests of all members. 

The objective of the Music Society Leadership is to organize, delegate, and give ownership to the student musicians at Sturgis in order to realize the above mission and holistically offering musical opportunities to all Sturgis students.

The Sturgis Music Society meets monthly and as needed as a full group on Fridays at lunch in the music room from 11:35-11:55. Meetings vary from organizational discussions, brainstorming sessions, and announcements about upcoming events to games, activities, guest speakers/musicians, and team building activities like ice cream/hot chocolate socials and scavenger hunts.
