half step down
Half Step Down is the Sturgis East a cappella group.
Who should join? Students in grades 9-12 are invited to participate in this extracurricular group. It is recommended that the student interested in joining this group either has previous choral music experience, can read sheet music, has a well-developed ear, or is very dedicated to music making!
What does the group sing? Popular music in contrasting styles/genres in four-part harmony (SATB). This group offers many opportunities for solo singing.
When does the group meet?
I am happy to share that we have gotten approval to hold chorus rehearsals on Tuesdays after school outside of the West Campus between the hours of **3:30-6:00pm (starting next Tuesday, Sept. 29)! Unfortunately, the East campus does not have an outdoor space which can accommodate rehearsing outside. This means that students who are hybrid on Tuesdays will need to walk (or drive themselves, or have a guardian drive them) to the West campus. Note that students should not drive other students at this time. Students who are remote on Tuesdays will need to arrange transportation to and from the school. Students/guardians will need to complete and return the driving waiver prior to rehearsal in order to attend. (Digital submission is encouraged!)
**Note that the exact time of the rehearsal may be from 4-5 or 5-6, with 3:30-4 being a time for one on one instruction or team building depending on how many students show interest in participating.
Who do I contact if I'd like to join?
You can email the director, Mrs. Natalie Sheeler, the music teacher and choral director at Sturgis East. email@example.com.
Of note... this group has also performed at the 2018 a cappella festival at the Cotuit Center for the Arts. In the summer of 2019, this group performed with the group Cape Harmony at the Federated Church in Hyannis.
